NEW LIVE VIDEO OF PAN AURORA PERFORMING AT SECRET SESSIONS

PA at secret session 2013

EN: As some of you may have noticed, we happened to be playing the Nuits Secrètes Festival on August 3d. They were kind enough to invite us after the gig to their well-known Secret Sessions. Being given 2 hours to write, perform and record a brand new song with their team of musicians, we came up with this mellow pop track entitled “A Bit of a Punk”. I personally enjoyed the experience immensely. Especially considering that jamming is at the polar opposite of how we usually work. Special thanks to Jeff (guitar), Mathias (backing vocals) and Thibaut (drums) for playing with us.

Here’s the live footage of this written-on-the-spot tune. We hope you’ll enjoy it! Please give us some feedback.

C'est long à lire, hein ?

Je vais me coucher.
THANKS A LOT TO TINA, HENRY HIRSCH and FRED CANDEILLE !!!!!. I got it but we did it !Merci aussi à tout ceux qui ont participé à cet enregistrement !Au passage... Here is the second part of the story. It’s a bit long to read isn’t it? Believe me it’s been long for me too… Right… I’m back in France, still the little marshmallow sleeping nineteen hours a day. But a little marshmallow with seven tracks almost completed! Unfortunately, I had to cancel several gigs including one at the M for Montréal festival, organised by La Marmite… Which really weighed me down… Because even though I was finally back in France, I didn’t really leave the mono behind. It kept on following me like an ominous, clutching shadow… I sort of went into hibernation until February. After this long period stuck halfway between sleep and dreams, the idea to finish the album crept back into me. Be it in France, in Timbuktu, anywhere… I had to do it, so I asked Mr Fred Candeille for his help and he agreed to help me. Thanks again Fred, I don’t know how I would have managed without your help! We finished the takes in Fred’s studio: La Fabric at La Madeleine. Our aim was to bag everything up before April, because this was when Henry would be waiting for me to mix in Hudson. We worked a lot, because there was still a hell of a lot to do and April would come by quickly… Everything was almost finished, aside from some singing parts and a few instrument takes. And we made a good team which prompted me to ask Fred to come along with me to Hudson to assist Henry with the mix.New York here we come again! 5th of April 2012.False start! 6AM sharp at the airport, brimming with vitality! I’m being told the booking has been cancelled while withdrawing my boarding pass. Of course, Edreams hasn’t warned me about the cancellation, and of course the price of the ticket has been taken off my bank account. Of course the offices of Edreams (or maybe Enightmares) are opening at 9AM. And of course, I miss my flight!6th of April 2012.Let’s go to NY, second try. This time I’m there at 4AM, a little bit less sprightly on the way to the departures gate. Thirty minutes later: Beep Beep, your plane is one hour and a half late (Shit I’m going to miss my connection). Another thirty minutes later: Beep Beep, your plane is cancelled (yes it’s true). I need to wait until 6AM to catch another flight. The personnel being quite nice, I get a sandwich. And I dutifully miss my train for Hudson, since the plane is cancelled… Twenty four hours later in Hudson, I’m finally dropping my bags, exhausted. I’m going to bed. Don’t talk to me. Thank you, goodnight. Honestly, what’s the problem with New York? I must have been a terrorist in another life and Big Apple takes its revenge on me.Fred lands a few days later, without trouble, and we get down to the job. We begin with the singing takes. For the purpose, Henry buys vintage TANOI stereo mikes dating from the 40s. And there are only thirteen of those in the world! Just because he thinks this is what’s needed for my voice. And indeed the sound prooves magnificent, sweet, vintage, warm, pure… Incredible! Following that we do the mixing, working twelve hours a day, only taking one day off in the month. I’m still falling asleep on the sofa, but in a far better state than a few months ago. I end up being on the cover of the Hudson newspaper with my first American article which makes Henry really proud! April ends, the album too… I mean, almost… We still have to put the final touches in France with Fred, but that’s a wrap!April 2013.So here we are! I finally took the time to write down this story. Now that I’m through with the bad patch, I’m left with an album to defend, which I am really proud of. I can’t wait for it to reach your ears. I’m also looking forward to go on tour with my smashing band! So be a little bit more patient (and you need to if you read this blog) it’s coming soon. I promise! I’ll keep you posted now that I have this great blog (and thanks to YOUNICK, the great webmaster!)Thanks a lot to TINA, HENRY, HIRSCH and FRED CANDEILLE!!!!! I got it but we did it! Thanks to all those who took part in this recording! Ah, and by the way… It will be a STEREO album, not MONO…And the name is MIRROR FOR HEROES!Websites of the studios of my two sonic guardian angels:http://www.waterfrontstudios.org/Waterfront_Studio/Welcome.htmlhttp://www.lafabric.info/____________________________________________________________________________________________

Ça se passait à peu près comme ça : Henry frappait à ma porte et disait « I'm ready when you are ».

So here is what happened: As I was spending my first days in the arms of Morpheus, Henry was listening to my demos and working on the arrangements I had written in France. From my room, I was hearing parts playing and repeating. I would wake up, listen, and fall back into sleep. Later, I would wake up, we would talk a while, and I would go back to sleep. A few days later, when the fever fell, I was still a complete marshmallow but with Henry willing to advance at all costs, we started recording again.
It went a little bit like this: Henry would knock on my door saying: “I’m ready when you are”. Something which didn’t put me under pressure, at all… So I was jumping out of bed, and crawling up the stairs to the magnificent 19th century looking recording room. I would lie on the rug with my guitar, and do one or two hours of takes, maybe three or four. Then I would bed down again. Henry would be working on the sound, getting the basses or other things ready, and then he would come back knocking on my door with the little “I’m ready when you are”. And we would work together again. Against all odds, we made progress. As you might have guessed, I wasn’t exactly on top form. I was doing the guitar takes, but for the keyboards and the bass, we would do it together. The drums were far too much for my mononucleosed, marshmallow body. So we made a drummer come over from New York: Ernesto Karolys, of Equatorian origin and a French speaker! I had recorded all the parts on the demos, which greatly helped for working. Him speaking French also greatly helped communication as my fogged up brains would sometimes get in a muddle with the English technical terms. We also made a Sitar player join in: Rich. Really nice, really tall! And we recorded the strings. WOW, what a feeling when the score you wrote with your little hands comes to life, live with strings. A great moment! Ahem, it might be too much emotion, let’s go back to bed another twenty four hours…Later, we received a letter, the first one, then a second one, then a third one. Every day there would be new letters in the box (well, more like bills) coming from the hospital. BAM! 500 dollars for a penicillin shot (lousy treatment for a lousy throat infection diagnostic), and BAM! 400 dollars for the emergency consultation, another 300 for the chat with the doctor (which lasted six minutes), and ka-boom 800 dollars for the x-ray and the blood test. And so on and so forth day after day… What? Are you’re kidding me? And they would harass me every day calling Henry because they were scared I would leave the United States without paying the bills. Here, medicine is a serious business…
The hospital advised me to visit another doctor after three weeks to determine if I could take a plane or not. Following that, we called about fifteen doctors, none of whom would take me for a consultation, those same people who told me to come back three weeks before… Either they refused, or replied they would get back to me and never did. I didn’t understand, but it was clear to Henry: They didn’t want to see me because I didn’t have insurance. No insurance, no appointment with the doctor, and no plane to go home. A “no win situation” according to Henry… So as a last resort we used Melon, the Chihuahua of Tina and Henry to threaten one of them while he was leaving the hospital, and he agreed to come over and diagnose me. Verdict: Still too weak to board the plane. I have to wait another three weeks. This is how I came back to France mid-October, with seven tracks under my belt. Seven tracks! How we did that I don’t know, but we did it!To be continued…
